Today is Operation Safe Stop Education and Enforcement Day. 🚌 🛑
Law enforcement officers around New York State are on board school buses on Thursday, April 25, 2024, and in marked and unmarked patrol units on selected bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints.
Police issue tickets to drivers who pass stopped school buses. All violations are reported to a central command post so that final figures are available to state and local officials as well as the media.
Operation Safe Stop seeks to promote school bus safety through education and enforcement efforts. Operation Safe Stop is a cooperative project supported by the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee, the New York State Education Department, the New York Association for Pupil Transportation, the New York State School Bus Contractors Association, the student transportation industry and state, county, city and local law enforcement agencies.

This show will be on view April 26- May 9, 2024 at the Weeks Gallery on the Jamestown Community College Campus. There will also be an opening reception and awards ceremony Friday, April 26, 4:00-6:00 p.m. to celebrate our students' artistic excellence! Congratulations to Lucas!

Operation Safe Stop!

On Saturday, April 20th, 2024, the Cassadaga Valley High School History Club, under the guidance of Tina Richir and Peggy Heath, embarked on its annual field trip selected by its members. Our first destination was the Buffalo AKG Art Museum (formerly the Albright Knox Art Gallery). During a guided tour, we had the opportunity to admire and ask questions about a diverse array of artworks, including pieces representing various styles such as modern, abstract, expressionist, cubism, classicalism, impressionism, and sculptures. Among the notable works we encountered were pieces by Jackson Pollock, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Warhol. Students also saw a painting that was stolen by the German Natzi Party and recovered. Following the AKG Art Museum visit, students indulged in a satisfying lunch of chicken wings and pizza at the renowned Anchor Bar Restaurant. Our next stop was the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum, where we were treated to a guided tour by none other than the original co-owner, Jim Sandoro. We marveled at the museum's exceptional collection of antique vehicles, bicycles, and historic automobilia. We were also granted special access to the museum's upcoming expansion. It's worth noting that the club utilized a grant to facilitate some of these enriching experiences.

The CVCS Family Center's next event will be held on May 15th from 9:00-10:00am in room #115 (Please check in at the MHS office).

Operation Safe Stop! What is the law? Did you know that, even if there's a median, dirt or grass dividing a highway, you still MUST STOP for a bus with flashing red lights?

On April 10th and April 16th, the Cassadaga Valley School District kicked off their softball and baseball seasons with an opening ceremony to unveil their newly constructed fields to the community. Dave Davison, Interim Superintendent, presented the ceremonial remarks during the home opener for the softball field. He spoke of the hard work and planning that goes into capital projects, and the fact that it is sometimes hard for the public to see the outcome of a project because it is usually things that are behind the scenes, like roofs or boilers. “This time,” he said, “You get to see our front porch.” The game was started by Paul Cooley, long time retired teacher and CVCS varsity softball coach, throwing out the first pitch to christen the softball field. On April 16th, Ron Tonelli, high school principal, presented the ceremonial remarks during the home opener for the baseball field. Ron expressed gratitude to the community for approving such an amazing project for our athletes to enjoy for their high school careers. He also thanked board members, past and current superintendents, and a variety of staff for all of the planning and hard work that went into making the fields in our new complex a reality. Art Asquith, long time retired teacher and coach at CVCS, started the game by throwing out the first pitch. It was a wonderful honor to have two legendary members of the “Valley”, that gave so much to past students and athletics, join us in kicking off our new facilities for new generations to enjoy!

Students from Business Math classes participated in the Junior Achievement of Western New York Live Stock Market Challenge held at Erie 1 BOCES. The student teams began with $500,000 and competed against a total of 22 teams from various schools. The students traded funds in a high energy, in-person simulation and put into practice lessons learned about risk, diversity, long-term investment strategies and rewards of trading. Newsletters and alerts were distributed that helped the teams make live on the spot decisions whether to buy, sell, or wait it out. Cassadaga's team comprised of Bradley Windnangle, Javonte Hackett and Blaine Percey came in 6th place! Congratulations!

The High School History Club recently convened for an enlightening student slide presentation by Isabella Jaquith and Keyamari Keys on the evolution of technology in the dairy industry. The presentation covered modern milking systems, animal care, and the utilization of computerized collars and tags worn by the animals.
Mrs. Richir, the club advisor, extended an invitation to her sister Lisa H. Kempisty, an expert with over 39 years of experience as an Agriculture Community Educator specializing in Dairy and Livestock at the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County to attend the meeting. Lisa, who works extensively with 4-H Youth aged 5-19, shared insights with the club members about agriculture and food industry. With nearly 30 members in attendance, Ms. Kempisty generously provided organic cheese curd and ice cream for the students to enjoy.
During the meeting, club members also deliberated on their upcoming field trip scheduled for Saturday, April 20th, to Buffalo. The itinerary includes visits to The Albright Knox Gallery (AKG) and the Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum. The next meeting is slated for April 30th after school.

The algebra students in Mrs. Schrader's and Mr. Rizzo's (our student teacher from SUNY Fredonia) classes built and launched catapults outside as a culminating activity to our quadratic equation unit. The path the marshmallows took is that of projectile motion which the students will encounter on the Algebra Regents exam this June.
