Cathryn Russell placed first overall in the Junior People in Agriculture FFA District competition held at the Sherman Central School. Jr. People In Ag is one of many CTE/LDE events students prepare for then compete against students from other schools. Jr. People In Ag requires students in grades 6-8 to select a career field related to agriculture, then prepare and meet 15 criteria as outlined in the rules. Students must also be able to present their career choice and answer questions from a panel of judges. Catie is a 7th grader and was able to top six other competitors for first place, presenting a career in Environmental Engineering. She will now move to the FFA sub-state competition to be held in March. If Catie is successful at sub-states, she will advance to States. Congratulations and good luck, Catie!

Important Mask Update! Earlier this afternoon NYS Governor Hocul held a press conference and announced that effective Wednesday, March 2 the state mask mandate in schools will be lifted. Based on this guidance, we will be wearing face coverings on Monday & Tuesday of this week - but they will become optional on Wednesday. Below is an update on the protocols we will be following at CVCS: Face Coverings - as of Wednesday, March 2, the mask mandate in schools will be lifted. This means that the wearing of a face covering for students, faculty and staff will be optional in all classroom and school settings in our District. We will continue to supply face coverings for anyone who chooses to wear one. Please note that since face coverings are optional as of Wednesday the choice to wear a face covering is at the discretion of the individual student's family. Face Coverings on Buses - While we have not received official word from NYSED or Chautauqua County regarding mask mandates on school buses, the New York State Association for Pupil Transportation (NYSAPT) has indicated that based on CDC guidance that universal mask wearing will no longer be required in K-12 settings that the same will apply to school buses transporting public school children. We assume that will be clarified in the next day or two but we are quite sure that will be the case. At this point, masks are still required on buses until Wednesday, March 2.
