The FFA kids received their new jackets and were so excited they couldn't wait to wear them! Wish them luck as they head off to compete at Districts today in Fillmore.
Also, this is your friendly reminder to support these kids at their pancake breakfast fundraiser (because who doesn't love pancakes, and awesome kids!?) on Sunday, February 16th, at the Stockton Fire Hall from 8AM-12:30PM!

With the first full week in February here, it is officially National School Counseling Week!
National School Counseling Week 2025, “School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive,” sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), is celebrated from Feb. 3–7, 2025, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and how students are different as a result of what school counselors do. With that, we'd like to take a minute to recognize our 4 amazing counselors!
Marie Torrey, Sinclairville Elementary School Counselor, goes above and beyond each and every day to support all of our students, staff, and parents. Marie focuses on positive ways to enhance students’ academic, career and social/emotional development. Marie works with teachers and other educators to provide the skills students need and the environment in which students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic and optimistic goals for themselves. Mrs. Torrey is an amazing asset to the Cassadaga Valley community and we thank her for all she does each and every day. - Mrs. Sedlak
Heather Nocero is our High School Counselor, working with our students in grades 9-12. Her work starts with students when they are in eighth grade by helping them to set up their high school schedules in order to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. She helps our students navigate their class choices, pushes into classes to help students find a career path and/or college choice, helps students navigate high school conflict, work through life's difficult moments, and to celebrate all the achievements along the way.
Jacob Wilcox is our Middle School Counselor, working with our students in grades 6-8. His work starts with students when they are in fifth grade, in helping them to get acclimated to the MHS. He sets up fifth grade orientation, works with groups of students on developing executive function skills, helps with conflict resolution, helps students develop organization skills, and is himself a middle-schooler at heart.
We’d also like to thank Amy Raynor for her dedication and unwavering support of our students! This special week provides recognition for school counselors like Amy who implement comprehensive school counseling programs, a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century. National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career.
After having worked in a few schools and with various different school counselors throughout my career in education, I can say that the students and staff at Cassadaga Valley are the lucky ones. We have the best counselors that I've ever seen do this job! They are all integral parts of our student services team! - Mr. Tonelli
Most importantly, they ALL appreciate all of our students and families at Cassadaga Valley!
Thank you Heather, Jacob, Amy, and Marie for being a really important part of our students' lives here in The Valley. #ValleyProud #CougarPride #SchoolCounselorWeek

We had a little "Super Bowl iReady Challenge" this week for reading. Whichever "team" passed the most iReady lessons this week would be deemed "Super Bowl Champs." Here are the results.....
Wise - 46 lessons passed
Kelly - 44 lessons passed
Fox - 25 lessons passed
Combined total of 115 lessons passed for the week!
Students were rewarded with lunch in the classroom and a super bowl style Wegmans cookie :) they were pretty excited! Since Mrs. Kelly's class worked so hard as well and were so close to first place, they ate in the classroom with Mrs. Kelly today.

What is a 2-hour delay?! In the event that the weather looks like it would be absolutely awful in the early morning hours, but is expected to clear within a reasonable amount of time, we may call a 2-hour delay. Please read this information and give us a call if you have any questions!

They say that January is the longest Monday EVER. I think they are definitely on to something with that sentiment, but great news -- February is upon us!
Please take note of the attached February Newsletter with important updates, including changing March 7th from a Superintendent Conference Day to a student day!
We wish you a joyful, sunny month ahead. And remember: It's always a great day to be in The Valley!

A huge Cougar "ROAR" to Logan Farnham who prepared and gave a historical presentation on Mao Zedong at the recent High School History Club meeting. The club also helps to foster student leadership and cooperation between clubs in The Valley. The meeting was led by co- presidents, Anna Burlingame and Kemamari Keys. Notes were recorded by our our secretary, Alexa Jaquith, and the treasurer's report and balance was given by Bella Jaquith. The meeting was well attended this month with close to 40 members there to celebrate the New Year and discuss upcoming events for the club. Students were excited to help CV SADD with preparation for PS I Love You Day, which will be held in February.
The Social Studies Department is also very excited to be starting a Middle School History Club under the direction of Mr. Schrader, this year, which is planning to meet next month. Students in grades 6-8 can sign up outside their social studies classrooms.
The HS History Club advisor, Mrs. Richir, stated, "This year, we have the largest number of members since before COVID. It is exciting to see students involved in after school clubs and activities again!" Clubs meet on certain dates directly after school until 3:00 pm. If you have any questions about History Club, contact trichir@cvcougars.org.

Happy Lunar New Year! The Language Club recently learned about Lunar New Year and practiced their written Chinese. 2025 marks the Year of the Snake!

This morning, the Varsity Girls Basketball team went down to SES for a meet and greet with the elementary students to encourage interest in HS sports! #ValleyProud #BuildingFutureAthletes

Just a reminder that Lunar New Year is recognized as a NYS public school holiday, therefore Cassadaga Valley School is CLOSED tomorrow, January 29th. In September 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul added Lunar New Year to the list of public school holidays to stress the importance of New York's Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. “It is not just a day off from school — it is an opportunity for our children to learn about and celebrate their own or different cultures and traditions,” Hochul said in a 2023 news release. New York is home to the second largest Asian population in the U.S., which is the fastest-growing racial and ethnic group nationwide, with 1.9 million residents, a 2021 report from the Pew Research Center found.
Lunar New Year, which is a significant holiday for many East Asian families, symbolizes a fresh start and is celebrated differently by each culture. This year is the Year of the Snake, kicking off a 15-day celebration until the full “Snow Moon” which signals the beginning of the Lantern Festival on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.

Cassadaga Valley MHS Parents/Guardians:
If you’ve noticed missing water bottles, or especially some missing hooded sweatshirts around the house, please send them down to the lost and found in the cafeteria. We are overflowing with sweatshirts!
