This is a message to notify all families, faculty and staff that despite a number of hoax phone calls that other schools in our region have received, everything here at CVCS remains safe - and our regular school schedules have been followed throughout the afternoon. We will have a regular dismissal and after school activities will take place as originally planned. While we maintained a "lockout" this afternoon, it was simply to employ a procedure that enhances our building security - there was never a direct concern for anyone's safety here in the Valley. Thank you and have a great evening!

Good afternoon Cougar Family! I'm writing to share an important notification regarding a regional and statewide hoax about school shootings. These calls to a wide variety of school districts are totally unfounded and School District officials and law enforcement officers are all aware of the "swatting" efforts designed to elicit widespread concern. There is a regional response from school leaders to reassure our communities that there is no credibility to these phone calls or internet statements. Out of an abundance of caution we will be in a lockout for the remainder of the school day. A lockout simply means that access to the buildings will be extremely limited - but everyone is safe and sound. Buffalo area TV media is also reinforcing the message that these are faulty claims. Thank you for your understanding.

Good afternoon. Just a few minutes ago the smoke alarm was triggered in the middle/high school building. Everyone in the building evacuated immediately and we were able to quickly ascertain that the cause was a contractor making a repair in the boiler room. The repair required some welding and that set off the smoke alarm. When the alarm is triggered the fire department is automatically notified. They are currently on site, checking the situation and clearing the alarm. Everyone is safe and back in the building.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to keep CVCS a safe place for our students and staff we are pleased to introduce a new tool that will support that effort. On Thursday, March 23rd, our middle/high school students will watch a 30 minute video designed to train students to look for warning signs and threats – especially on social media – of someone at risk of hurting themselves or others, and how to speak up to a trusted adult before a tragedy can occur. We know that students are often aware of concerns well before the adults in our community, (or outside of school hours) and this training will give our students additional tools to speak up when they see or hear something that should be reported. The Sandy Hook Promise: Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is already being used in the majority of schools in the E2CC BOCES region and has been presented to almost 4 million students nationwide. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System can be utilized to report threats and events that school personnel may need to know about. The student training will review how to utilize the website, an app, or to make a phone call to report something important when a student cannot reach a trusted adult at the school. The system is not intended to replace telling staff here at school if something alerts a child to an issue or problem, rather it is additional support to utilize as needed either after school hours, on weekends or during vacations, etc. If students do have questions, please encourage them to reach out to the main office or the counseling office in the MHS. For more information on the Sandy Hook Promise Say Something program please visit this link: https://www.sandyhookpromise.org/our-programs/say-something-anonymous-reporting-system/features-and-benefits/

Honoring Excellence at CVCS!!! It is our pleasure to share some great news about a member of our High School faculty. We just received notice that Mrs. Wendy Dyment, CVCS High School Social Studies teacher, has been selected as a winner of the 2023 Singer Family Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching. The Singer Prize for Excellence is an award given annually by the University of Rochester to high school teachers who have made a significant impact on students and their school system. During each fall semester, all seniors at the University are asked to nominate one of their former teachers for this award. A committee of faculty and students then review those nominations and select a group of finalists. The winning teachers have been invited to participate in an awards ceremony on campus and also be VIP guests at the University’s Commencement Ceremony on May 12, 2023. Mrs. Dyment was nominated for this prestigious honor by Cassadaga Valley graduate Anna Grace Wenger, Class of 2019. On behalf of the School Board, our Faculty, Staff and CVCS community, we would like to congratulate Mrs. Dyment for this well deserved award! We are all proud of you and your commitment to our students and your profession!
