Good afternoon. Just a few minutes ago the smoke alarm was triggered in the middle/high school building. Everyone in the building evacuated immediately and we were able to quickly ascertain that the cause was a contractor making a repair in the boiler room. The repair required some welding and that set off the smoke alarm. When the alarm is triggered the fire department is automatically notified. They are currently on site, checking the situation and clearing the alarm. Everyone is safe and back in the building.

As a part of our ongoing commitment to keep CVCS a safe place for our students and staff we are pleased to introduce a new tool that will support that effort. On Thursday, March 23rd, our middle/high school students will watch a 30 minute video designed to train students to look for warning signs and threats – especially on social media – of someone at risk of hurting themselves or others, and how to speak up to a trusted adult before a tragedy can occur. We know that students are often aware of concerns well before the adults in our community, (or outside of school hours) and this training will give our students additional tools to speak up when they see or hear something that should be reported.
The Sandy Hook Promise: Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is already being used in the majority of schools in the E2CC BOCES region and has been presented to almost 4 million students nationwide. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System can be utilized to report threats and events that school personnel may need to know about. The student training will review how to utilize the website, an app, or to make a phone call to report something important when a student cannot reach a trusted adult at the school. The system is not intended to replace telling staff here at school if something alerts a child to an issue or problem, rather it is additional support to utilize as needed either after school hours, on weekends or during vacations, etc.
If students do have questions, please encourage them to reach out to the main office or the counseling office in the MHS. For more information on the Sandy Hook Promise Say Something program please visit this link:

Honoring Excellence at CVCS!!!
It is our pleasure to share some great news about a member of our High School faculty. We just received notice that Mrs. Wendy Dyment, CVCS High School Social Studies teacher, has been selected as a winner of the 2023 Singer Family Prize for Excellence in Secondary School Teaching. The Singer Prize for Excellence is an award given annually by the University of Rochester to high school teachers who have made a significant impact on students and their school system.
During each fall semester, all seniors at the University are asked to nominate one of their former teachers for this award. A committee of faculty and students then review those nominations and select a group of finalists. The winning teachers have been invited to participate in an awards ceremony on campus and also be VIP guests at the University’s Commencement Ceremony on May 12, 2023.
Mrs. Dyment was nominated for this prestigious honor by Cassadaga Valley graduate Anna Grace Wenger, Class of 2019. On behalf of the School Board, our Faculty, Staff and CVCS community, we would like to congratulate Mrs. Dyment for this well deserved award! We are all proud of you and your commitment to our students and your profession!

Attention 3-8 Cougar U families:
Thursday, March 23rd at 4:30pm, will be our celebration of learning for Cougar U families. Students will stay after school to prepare and families should arrive at Sinclairville Elementary at 4:30pm. We hope to see you there so that we can share what we have learned the past 6 weeks.
*There will be no transportation home Thursday. Families will take their students home after the celebration ends. Please arrange transportation if you cannot attend.*

Sinclairville Elementary School is currently in a shelter in place while our nursing staff and local EMT's attend to one child with a health concern. We have entered into a shelter in place just to keep others out of the hallway until the situation is resolved. We want to emphasize that this medical circumstance only involves a single child and the parents are fully aware of the incident. Everyone else in the building is safe and secure. It is important to note that during a shelter in place regular instruction continues in all of our classrooms. Thank you for your understanding.

Congratulations to Mya Cusimano, Katarina Pattison, Hannah Yonkers, Lauren Jasinksi, Madison Walter-Yoder, Monica Snyder, Elizabeth Hornburg and Kristin Wise! Their artwork was chosen for the High School Juried Art Exhibition; it will be on display at the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at St. Bonaventure University!

Key Clubbers delivered spring baskets full of handmade thank you cards and goodies to the cafeteria staff here at the middle/high school. We appreciate all you do, everyday!

Attention middle/high school families: earlier this morning our MHS building entered into a shelter in place to provide a student who was experiencing a minor medical issue a higher level of privacy. A shelter in place is just a period of time when students stay where they are and instruction goes on as it always does. An announcement was made to the entire building at that point indicating we were entering into a shelter in place for a medical situation. There was no safety or security concern at all. Had there been an emergency we certainly would have notified the school community. Using a shelter in place is a very simple way to keep everyone in place so that medical personnel can come and go more easily and not have to deal with student traffic in the hallway. This situation - with a single student - lasted approximately 30 minutes and then the shelter in place was lifted. Thank you for your understanding!

Due to inclement weather and poor driving conditions all after school activities are cancelled for today. However, the Fitness Center will remain open this evening.

An important part of school district operation is to have community members serve as volunteers on the Board of Education. School Board members at Cassadaga Valley serve five year terms and are selected during the school board election in the yearly school budget vote and board election in May. This year’s School Budget vote and school board election will take place May 16, 2023.
If you are considering service to your school district and would like to run for the Board of Education you must file an official petition signed by at least 25 qualified district voters (or 2% of the number of voters in the previous election, whichever is greater) with the district office by April 17, 2023. Interested candidates can pick up a petition in the District Office during regular business hours or by visiting our website.
