Celebrating our School Lunch Heroes Today!

Students in Business Math class participated in a virtual stock market challenge during the month of March and then, this past Friday, took the skills they learned to take part in a live challenge. 12 students traveled to Erie 1 BOCES, in West Seneca, to compete in the Junior Achievement USA's live event. Junior Achievement Take Stock in Your Future curriculum, taught by both Mr. Helwig and Mrs. Schrader, instructed students in understanding the foundational concepts of stocks and analyzing the stock market. They learned the value of and benefits associated with long-term investments and the concept of compound growth.
Students learned a variety of financial instruments and their risks and rewards as they apply to asset management. The students competing then put their market knowledge, learned in the classroom, into live practice. They bought and sold stocks based on current events that were announced during the competition and then had 60 seconds to make a decision based on the current event. At the conclusion of the event, students were treated to pizza donated by Crosby's. The event has many sponsors such as Delta Airlines, Wells Fargo, HSBC and JPMorganChase, to name a few. Although they didn't win, the class sure had a great time!

🌟A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Cafeteria Staff!🌟
School Lunch Hero Day is tomorrow and to show their appreciation for everything the cafeteria staff does to keep students and staff fueled throughout the day, the Foods and Workforce Readiness students organized a special luncheon in their honor.
"Thank you bunches for our lunches!"
In addition, the FFA provided a roma tomato plant to each cafeteria team member as a token of gratitude. We’re incredibly thankful for all they do behind the scenes to keep our school running smoothly and deliciously!

It is that time of year in Western New York where our weather is very unpredictable. We can have sunshine, rain, snow, hail, and severe thunderstorms on any given day with an occasional tornado mixed in a weather forecast. Today, Tuesday April 29th, 2025 the National Weather Service is forecasting that strong thunderstorms, damaging winds, large hail and a slim possibility of a tornado may develop during the afternoon hours.
Officer Kent was at the ready to remind the entire Cougar team what we should do when inclement weather hits. We appreciate you, Officer Kent!

We're excited to share one of our latest upgrades: safety window clings on the exterior of the Fitness Center! These beautiful window clings not only show our Cougar Pride but they provide privacy by allowing visibility from the inside out, while blocking views from the outside in. This improvement was made possible through Stronger Connections grant funding. #ValleyProud!

The CVCS High School History Club hit the road for an unforgettable adventure in Buffalo, NY on Saturday!
Students kicked off the day with a fascinating 90-minute tour of downtown Buffalo, exploring incredible architectural styles — from breathtaking Art Deco masterpieces to some of the city's first skyscrapers!
The journey through history continued with a stop to see an original manuscript of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn — a once-in-a-lifetime experience for any literature lover!
Of course, no Buffalo trip would be complete without a stop at the world-famous Anchor Bar, home of the original Buffalo chicken wing, where Mrs. Richir treated everyone to a delicious lunch!
The final highlight of the day was a visit to the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site, where students stood in the very spot where Roosevelt was sworn in following President McKinley’s assassination — a powerful moment in American history.
Thanks to a generous grant, all guided tours were covered, making this incredible day full of fun, history, and learning one to remember!
Way to go, History Club! We can’t wait for next year’s adventure!

Meet one of our newest Bus Attendant's, Aaron Skinner! Aaron's background as a CNA shows how much he cares for others and wants to help people. We're confident that these qualities will carry over to his duties as a bus attendant, helping to ensure student safety on the bus. He wanted to join the CVCS team to be closer to home and his kids who attend school here! Welcome to The Valley, Aaron!

Meet Music Teacher Mrs. Rose! #ValleyProud #StudentInfluencerAJG

After completing their pillowcase projects, several students expressed interest in continuing to sew. In collaboration with the school nurse, we identified a practical need for heating rice packs to support student wellness. Enthusiastic about giving back, a group of volunteers stepped up to create handmade rice packs for Mrs. Anderson in the nurse’s office. This project not only allowed students to strengthen their sewing skills but also gave them the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their school community!

Reminder! This week's Family Center event is provided by the OLV Kinship Program (services & supports for grandparents, relatives, friends who are caring for children in WNY). Join us on Wednesday, 4/30, from 9-10am (check in at the MHS office).

🌟 At our April 9th Board Meeting, we had the honor of recognizing two truly outstanding students: this year’s Valedictorian, Charlotte Couchman, and Salutatorian, Ariana Main! 🌟
We are incredibly proud of all they’ve achieved throughout their high school journeys and even more excited to see the amazing things their futures will bring. 🎓✨
Keep an eye out for their full stories in local newspapers in the coming weeks—but we couldn’t wait to celebrate them and share just how #ValleyProud we are of these remarkable young leaders! 👏

A big shoutout to our amazing high schoolers: Alicyn Debo, Skyleigh Debo, and Elizabeth Lewis! Their wonderful artwork has been selected for the 2025 High School Juried Art Show at the Regina A. Operation Safe Stop! - Do you know the laws regarding school buses in New York state? Passing a stopped school bus can result in hefty fines and penalties. This week, take the time to familiarize yourself with these laws and share them with friends and family. Knowledge is power when it comes to keeping our kids safe!
Whether you’re driving, walking, or riding the bus, let’s prioritize the safety of our children. Together, we can ensure a safer tomorrow for our students. Thank you for your commitment to school bus safety!

Operation Safe Stop! - As parents and caregivers, we set the example for our children. Show them how to cross the street safely, wait for the bus in a designated area, and respect school bus safety rules. This week, let’s make a conscious effort to teach and reinforce these behaviors. Safety starts with us! Encourage children to arrive early, stay back from the curb, and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching. These simple practices can help prevent accidents. Remember, safety is a shared responsibility!
