On Thursday, April 3rd, we were delighted to have the United Way come to SES as part of their Literacy Week event. Several guest readers, including Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel, read to our students in their classrooms. They also brought a selection of new books and allowed our students to choose one to take home. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with the United Way! The children enjoyed listening to the guest readers and are excited to read their new books!

The next Middle School PTO meeting will be on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 6:00PM, in MHS room #133. Join us!

On Friday, April 4th, Cassadaga Valley SADD hosted the International Save a Life Tour as part of the annual pre-prom driving while impaired awareness programming. This program was funded by the STOP DWI NY Foundation and put on by Matrix Entertainment. Students experienced virtual reality simulations that showed the dangers of driving while impaired and driving while intoxicated.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department also helped SADD out and brought some STOP DWI goodies along with some other awareness activities! Samantha Gleason (STOP DWI Coordinator), Deputy Beichner, and Deputy Montalban attended all day and visits were also made by Sheriff Quattrone and Deputy Lombardo. Deputies brought along drunk goggles and put students through field sobriety tests with the help of our very own Officer Kent. Deputy Beichner also brought in his K9's to give some students some demonstrations.
We couldn't have done this without the help of our English teachers, History teachers, and Mrs. Bennink as well for giving up class time to get all activities done. Thank you for supporting SADD!

Students in Mrs. Nelsen's Life Skills class have been learning about communication skills with Ms. Pleszewski through visits with guest speakers in different career paths to help them get "life ready". Today, they got to zoom with Vicky Pleszewski, who works at Walt Disney World! Students learned about what it is like to work for Disney World, what it's like to work at Disney's Animal Kingdom, the animals at Animal Kingdom, and also how Mrs. Pleszewski is bilingual and helps guests get some "Disney Magic" everyday! The students learned some Disney communication skills, shared some of their favorite things, and even set up another zoom to talk again and with more Disney cast members about how they communicate with others in their job. They had a BLAST!
