Hello Cassadaga Families, As we return from our Holiday Break, we are going to begin to offer some after school help sessions, both in-person and remotely, to help our M/HS students continue to grow academically. Our Cougar U Learning Lab will begin meeting remotely on Mondays, starting January 10, 2022, for students looking for some extra help, and in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students that stay for the Cougar U Learning Lab can either stay with a teacher after school or in the Multi-Purpose Room until the scheduled start time of 3:15 PM. The Remote Cougar U Lab runs from 3:30 PM-4:30 PM on Mondays, and from 3:15 PM - 4:30 PM for in-person help on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students taking advantage of in-person time must have their own transportation home. If you would like your student to stay after for Cougar U Learning Lab time, please call the main office at the middle/high school to let us know (716) 962-8581. Teachers may also be reaching out to families to see if this is an opportunity that a student would like to use. Please see the document (link below) for more information: https://5il.co/13nsf

Happy New Year and Good Evening to all Cassadaga Valley Families, Over the past few days you may have seen information come out from the Governor’s office and the New York State Department of Health regarding the provision of COVID home tests for every student in New York State. The original plan was that over the weekend these tests would be shipped to each BOCES and then the BOCES centers would deliver them to each school district for use by families at home. The original intent as stated by the Governor was to have all students in the state tested before we return to school on January 3rd. As you can imagine that is simply not a realistic plan, but the Governor would still like these test kits to be distributed to families as soon as possible. BOCES centers across the state have been working to deliver the test kits to school districts as quickly as possible, but can only do so once they receive the tests from the state. Some schools will be able to get the tests out to families over the weekend and others will distribute them to interested families early next week. Please keep in mind that families are not required to participate in this home COVID test opportunity and Cassadaga Valley will be prepared to provide a test kit for each student for families that would like to administer the test at home. While we absolutely want our kids and families to be safe and healthy, we want to move forward with this home testing in a thoughtful and coordinated manner. We hope to receive our shipment of test kits on Monday, January 3rd and once we receive them we will communicate our distribution plan. This will take place through a parent pick-up procedure similar to the process we used with food distribution early in the pandemic. Using this approach will allow all interested parents to pick up the tests as soon as they are available and those who are not interested will not have to do so. It is also important to note that these home tests are for families to use on their own and they are not required to report results - and the school district will not be collecting any data from the process. If you choose to administer the test you can report the results to our school nurse but as always, it is up to each family to simply do what is best for their own children and keep them home if they are sick. Reporting a positive result to the school nurse will be helpful for the sake of managing quarantine protocols, but these tests are simply being offered by the state to be handled by families at home for their own use. Look for a video update to be posted on our website soon that will provide all the necessary details related to the distribution of these home test kits. Thank you so much for your attention to this important message and we will be in touch with more details soon!

Mrs. Hale's class celebrated Grinch week last week! They read the story, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," then watched the old movie and compared the two. They participated in Grinch-themed activities all week in Math and Writing. They made Grinch dust, played pin the heart on the Grinch and had a Grinch themed scavenger hunt. The week ended with them celebrating Grinchmas, complete with the Grinch turning their classroom green and paying them a visit!

This young man is going to school to be an Ag teacher. Mrs. Burns is so proud of him and cannot wait to see him teaching fabrication! Shown is a versatile tractor bucket hitch he created for pulling logs, a wood splitter, and/or moving wagons, etc. The welds are "spot on." Nice job, Wyatt!

Despite nationwide concerns related to a variety of social media posts, we have had a very safe and productive morning here at CVCS. Earlier today we had the NYS Troopers walk through our buildings and drive around our campuses. Our administrators have been as vigilant as always with our priority being overall school safety. Our afternoon is set aside for parent-teacher conferences and once those are complete we are cancelling all after school activities for today. We have not received an indication that anything here is unsafe, but to exercise caution and to be sure safety is our number one priority - we are cancelling all after school activities that were planned to take place here today. We hope you have a great weekend and that all our school families have a wonderful Holiday Season.
