On Saturday, October 5th, the High School History Club went to the Lakeview Cemetery Saints and Sinners Walking Tour sponsored by the Fenton Historical Society. Students "met" several individuals who had a large impact on Jamestown. They were introduced to businessmen, doctors, Lucille Ball's mother, as well as others. Students said they found it much more interesting than they thought it would be. Another student commented how interesting it was to learn the stories from the actors and how these people impacted Jamestown's local history. After the tour Mrs. Richir and Mr. Stimson treated the students to a pizza dinner. A special thank you to Mrs. Heath, and Mr. Schrader for helping chaperoning the walking tour.

Today is our annual Pink Day in remembrance of our beloved ELA teacher, Debra Tordoff. The Key Club sponsors this as a way to bring awareness to Breast Cancer and to raise money for senior scholarships in memory of Ms. Tordoff. Of course we still have to represent the Buffalo Bills too!

It’s been a busy start to the school year in Home Economics and Career and Finance. The food classes have made homemade granola with yogurt parfait and egg bites. They've been learning about how food affects their everyday lives, getting into the kitchen and exploring healthy food, and learning how to apply these skills at home. Career and Finance students met with our Maintenance staff and Administrative offices. The students were able to get to know the careers that we offer, right within our own school, as well as discover that our school employs over 30 alumni, with Mr. Todd Ames, Director of Facilities, clocking in at 38 years employment with CVCS class of 1986! We also welcomed Officer Taylor Anderson. Officer Anderson came to visit the Career and Finance class to offer insight into a career in law enforcement. Officer Anderson is also a CVCS alumni, class of 2016, and started her path right here with our school. Ms. Anderson began her criminal justice career through our BOCES program and, upon graduation, she proceeded right to JCC and enrolled into the police academy. Following graduation, she has had extensive training, as well as many EMT and various life saving certificates. Officer Anderson is employed with the Jamestown Police Department and loves the fast-paced work environment as well as serving her community! On behalf of all of our students and staff, we thank Ms. Anderson for taking the time to come back to CVCS, and inspire our students to do great things! #ValleyProud!

Today is School Custodian Appreciation Day! We'd like to take a minute to recognize all of our buildings and grounds staff who work, diligently, every single day to keep our facilities clean and safe! We also missed our opportunity to recognize our IT staff on National IT Professional Day (Sept. 17th) so we'd also like to give a shout out and special thanks to our IT guys, Phil and Adam! Not only do they keep up with the day to day tech operations/needs of the staff and students, they're constantly having to manage our security in the cyber world! So, to our custodial and tech staff, we want to say THANK YOU for all you do for this district! #ValleyProud!

At the beginning of the year, students in Mrs. Richir's classes participated in a one-word project that will remain displayed in the classroom throughout the year. Each student selected a word they felt deeply connected to or identified with, researched its definition, and explained why they chose it. Seniors also took part in this project. Mrs. Nocero from the guidance department recently worked with students in Global Studies 9 to complete the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator. This activity allowed students to reflect on their strengths and consider how these traits influence their relationships with others. Working together in a community circle, the students also developed personal goals for their first year of high school. Seniors, Hailey Myers and Anastasia TenPas, are pictured with a selection of the one-word projects behind them.
