Emiley Anderson received the 1st Annual Martha & Paul Cooley Legacy Award on August 11th at the Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame Picnic held at the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club.

This new award honors an outstanding female student-athlete from Cassadaga Valley High School — a place where Mr. Cooley taught and coached for 32 years. As he shared, at a previous board meeting, the award is “a small token of appreciation for the wonderful things that have happened to us largely because we were given the opportunity to spend a large part of our lives here in the Valley.”

Sponsored by the Chautauqua County Sports Hall of Fame and made possible by a donation to its Endowment Fund, the award will continue to recognize excellence in young women athletes for years to come. It is named for both Paul and Martha Cooley — in Mr. Cooley’s words, “because she was behind everything that I ever accomplished over the 68 years as my wife and best friend and was an avid supporter of Cassadaga Valley athletics.”

Congratulations, Emiley, on being the very first recipient of this meaningful legacy! #ValleyProud!

🚗✨ Our summer Driver's Ed class just wrapped up and was a huge success! Students went beyond just learning the rules of the road — they created powerful "Don't Drink and Drive" posters to hang around the school, practiced navigating without GPS by writing out and following directions, and even took time to write a heartfelt letter to our superintendent and Board of Education. 💌

In their letter, they shared how grateful they were for the opportunity to participate, how much they learned and improved, and how meaningful it was to learn safe driving while having fun with their friends. 🛣️💡 Their teacher, Mrs. Bittinger, had nothing but praise, calling them a truly fantastic group to work with! 🙌 Thank you, Mrs. Bittinger, for taking on this role and giving our students a great experience!

Great job to all of our future drivers — we’re so proud of you! 🚦👏

🐔👏 Last week, Landon Conti had an amazing showing at the Wyoming County Fair! He earned Reserve Grand Champion in the Novice Showmanship category with his chickens 🏆. He answered questions about how he feeds, cares for, and identifies different parts of his birds—showing off all his hard work and knowledge from the Wyoming County 4-H program.

He brought three of his pullets to display: Pauline and Oreo each earned blue ribbons 💙, and Hawk Eye earned a red ❤️ in the Appearance category.

Landon also raised market broiler chickens and participated in his first Wyoming County Meat Auction, where he earned a blue ribbon in Showmanship during the market broiler show.

As if that wasn’t enough, he also gave his first public presentation on how to care for chickens—sharing his passion and experience with others. 🐣

Landon is an incoming 4th grader at SES, and we’re so proud of everything he accomplished at the fair!

New year, new faces! Exciting changes are coming as our wonderful librarians switch things up for the upcoming school year! Kim Joslyn will be returning to SES, while Marlene Anderson is heading to MHS.

We asked them what they're most looking forward to in this new chapter — here’s what they had to say!

"I am excited to be back in the elementary building this year because I love the enthusiasm for learning in the elementary building. Watching a student's face light up when they learn something new is one of the best parts of being a teacher!" - Ms. Joslyn

"I am very excited to be working with the students and staff in the MHS! I look forward to inspiring a culture of reading, teaching digital literacy and research skills, and reinforcing problem-solving skills and creativity through hands-on STEAM projects." - Mrs. Anderson

Jeanine Bailey is one of our Special Education teachers and when we asked her about the new role she'll be shifting into, here's what she said! "This will be my 23rd year with CVCS and 10th year at Sinclairville Elementary. After many years teaching as a Consultant & Resource Room teacher, I am super excited to be going back to the self-contained setting! I'm looking forward to the class family we will be creating this year, and all the ways we all will learn and grow together most of all!"
