Interested in Running for a Seat on the Board of Education?

Have you ever considered running for a seat on the CVCS Board of Education? A school board member takes on one of the most important citizen responsibilities for a school district - overseeing the education of the community's youth. CVCS is always seeking people who find excitement and satisfaction in confronting tough challenges facing education and working collegially with other board members to rise above those challenges and help students succeed.

The Board of Education for Cassadaga Valley Central School is comprised of five (5) members of the district. Each year at least one new member is elected to serve for a five-year term on the Board.

In order to be a Board of Education member certain qualifications must be met:

  • Must be able to read and write (Educ. Law §2102)

  • Must be a qualified voter of the district, that is, a citizen of the United States or an Indian having been born in the United States to a member of an Indian Tribe or having been naturalized or otherwise acquired citizenship, at least 18 years of age or older, and not a convicted felon or adjudged as incompetent (Educ. Law §2102,2012,2502(7); Elec. Law §5-106(6))

  • Must be and have been a resident of the district for at least one year prior to the election, but need not be a taxpayer (Educ. Law §2502(9-a)(d))

  • May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year (Educ. Law §2103(2))

  • May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family (Educ. Law §2103(3))

  • May not be a current employee of the school board (Educ. Law §2103(4))

  • May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office (Matter of Schoch & Betheil, 21 Educ. Dept. Rep 300 (1981))
