This week we are honoring Matthew Helwig! Matthew has earned a trip to the 2023 NYSSMA Conference to sing tenor in the mixed choir. The choir is made up of 11th and 12th graders from around New York State, including New York City, Long Island and everywhere in between. Students audition in the spring of their 10th grade or 11th grade year for this event. He will be participating in four days of rehearsals with a guest conductor, culminating in a concert on Sunday at the Riverside Convention Center in Rochester. This concert is recorded and used by music companies to sell their arrangements of music. Matthew had a perfect score of a 100 on a level 6 solo in April, and was recommended by his adjudicator at the highest of three levels of musicianship in order to be selected. He has a history of excellent NYSSMA scores, scoring 99 on level 6 solos 2 consecutive times. He has also performed NYSSMA solos on trumpet. We are extremely proud of Matthew for showing the hard work and dedication to achieve this great honor! He is, at the very least, the only student in the past 40 years from Cassadaga Valley who has earned this honor. It may be longer than that! Congratulations, Matthew. We’re all proud of you and how you’ve represented The Valley!

To our CVCS Community - there will be a slight transportation change at the Middle/High School this afternoon. We will be dismissing students here at about 1:50pm (20 minutes early) for the afternoon bus ride home. This will allow for any extra time for our drivers to navigate road conditions. This change will also allow a regular dismissal time at Sinclairville Elementary School. There is no change to dismissal time at SES. In addition, all afterschool activities are canceled for this evening. There are no games or practices. The Fitness Center will also be closed after school and this evening.

Come “Ring the Bell” at the Superette! Every year the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign begins in late November to help support families in need in our district and surrounding communities. This year the Red Kettle Campaign will begin on November 27th, 2023 at the Superette in Sinclairville, NY. The campaign goes for 4 weeks and is always looking for volunteers. The money that we raise stays in our community and is meant to help families that have endured some form of hardship. In the past, the funds have been used to help families that are going through loss, to buy groceries, eye glasses, gas cards, and several other items of support. Our goal every year is to have at least 2-3 people a day “Ring the Bell”, but we would like to have even more this year! If you are interested in volunteering please contact Ryan Smith, Sinclairville Elementary School Social Worker, at 962-5195; ext. 2404 or email rsmith@cvcougars.org. Thank you so much for your support and let’s make this our best year yet.
