Important Information for M/HS Students: Wednesday, June 16, will be a BLUE day. (This is a change from the original calendar.) This is also the last day of instruction for students in grades 7-12. We will be providing three bus runs for testing days (AM, Mid-Day and PM). Students must sign up for busing in the M/HS Office no later than the close of school on Monday, June 14. While we await the NYS Department of Health to formally make changes to school safety plans, all current safety protocols will remain in effect. This includes masks, social distancing and screenings as we enter the building. We will forward updated information as we receive it. We will be distributing Farmers 2 Families boxes this week on Wednesday, May 26, starting at 9:00 AM until gone. We have been told that this will be the last distribution for this program for our school district.

This week, Key Clubbers assembled Class of 2021 gifts and got them ready to deliver. They made ribbons for each senior with a hand-written note, got suckers with "Class of 2021" labels on them, and a Dr. Seuss pencil that read, "Oh the places you will go." The gifts will be personally delivered next week.

CVCS will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic TODAY, Tuesday, May 25, from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM for students, faculty, staff and parents in the M/HS Library. CVCS will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic TODAY, Tuesday, May 25, from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM for students, faculty, staff and parents in the M/HS Library. Please use the entrance near the M/HS Gym entrance. This clinic is being coordinated by the Chautauqua County Dept. of Health and Human Services. All students between the ages of 12-17 need to have a consent form completed in order to receive the vaccination. Additionally, a drive-thru vaccination clinic will be held at the CVCS Bus Garage the same day, May 25, from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. At the end of their unit on energy, 4th grade students in Mr. Guziec’s class created solar ovens to harness the energy of the sun to make nachos and s’mores. The heat from the sun is trapped inside the solar oven and it starts getting very hot. Boxes like theirs are often called “collector boxes” because they collect the sunlight inside. As it sits out in the sun, the oven eventually heats up enough to melt the cheese on the nachos and helps create the sticky, gooey s’mores. How does it happen? Rays of light are coming to the earth at an angle. The foil reflects the ray and bounces it directly into the opening of the box. Once it has gone through the plastic wrap, it heats up the air that is trapped inside. The aluminum foil absorbs the heat at the bottom and the sides of the oven and makes sure that the heat stays where it is.

The Chautauqua County Health Department will be holding drive-thru vaccination clinics in the CVCS bus garage from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM to administer first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on the following days: Tuesday, May 18 Tuesday, June 1 Tuesday, May 25 Tuesday, June 8 The second doses will also be administered at the bus garage, approximately 3 weeks after the first doses. For all minors under the age of 18, a parent or legal guardian must provide consent for vaccination, either in-person or by using the form found here: https://5il.co/sr53 This form must be brought with all minors, unless they are accompanied to the clinic with a parent/guardian. The annual CVCS Budget Vote and Board of Education Election will take place in-person on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Polls will be open 1:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the M/HS Cafeteria. Due to COVID-19 protocols, everyone over the age of two must wear a face covering while inside the building and temperature checks will be taken at the door.

The fine when you pass a stopped school bus ranges from a minimum of $250 for a first violation to a maximum of $1,000 for three violations in three years. If you are convicted of three of these violations in three years, your driver license will be revoked for a minimum of six months. Source: www.dmv.ny.gov

Good afternoon, We have just received confirmation from the Chautauqua County Health Department of two of our bus drivers being placed in required quarantine, as they were close contacts to a positive case of COVID-19. These two individuals will not be able to drive again until Tuesday, May 18. That reduction in our transportation team for a week makes it impossible to carry out all of our bus runs as they are currently scheduled. To accommodate this - and not close school - we are planning to cancel bus runs on a rotating basis on the days indicated below. This schedule will limit the impact of our lack of drivers as each bus run will only miss one day until we are fully staffed again a week from tomorrow. No bus runs due to lack of driver availability for the following: • Tuesday, May 11 - Buses #182 & #188 • Wednesday, May 12 - Buses #183 & #184 • Thursday, May 13 - Buses #185 & #186 • Friday, May 14 - Buses #177, #178 & #181 • Monday, May 17 - Buses #189 & #190 We apologize for this inconvenience to our families, but hope that many of you will be able to make arrangements for your child’s transportation to/from school on the day their bus run isn’t taking place. Should you simply not be able to get your child to school that day, we understand and will work with you on an individual basis to provide appropriate materials - and students will not be considered absent on that day. Friday, May 7, we celebrated the Middle/High School cafeteria staff and all they do for our students, staff, school and community, especially during this challenging year. Eighth grade students Javonte and Haley presented the AMAZING crew with gifts from the school Wellness Committee and Innovation Team from mini-grants received from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. Students showed their Cougar Pride and appreciation with cheers during the last lunch period. All students can enjoy great meals, including a free breakfast and lunch everyday. Thank you again to our lunch heroes!
