Mrs. Meeder's Meat and Food Science class partnered with Mrs. Kelly's Field Journaling class last Friday to help map out maple trees for future tapping! The Field Journaling class just finished their tree unit, and was teaching the Food Science class how to distinguish a difference between red and sugar maples 🍁

Our SES highlight for last week is our student services suite (Mrs. Nocero, Mrs. Myles, Mr. Smith, and Mrs. Esselburn)!! They do a tremendous job working together to support students’ mental, emotional, and behavioral well-being. By providing personalized care, crisis support, and early intervention, they help create a safe, healthy environment where all students can thrive.

Recently, students in our Construction Systems and CTE programs attended the WNY Construction Career Day at Local 17’s training facility in Lakeview, NY. They had hands-on opportunities to operate cranes and excavators and explore careers in welding, carpentry, masonry, and metalworking!

On Friday, 10/3, the Key Club held their annual Pink Day to bring recognition to Breast Cancer Awareness and to raise money for the Debra Tordoff Senior Scholarship fund! 💗

Cassadaga Valley presents on October 10th: The Sleep Guy!! Please join us for this free presentation by "The Sleep Guy", Chris Sargeant. Sargent works extensively with student-athletes around the state to propel them to the next level in their sport of choice. The factor that has the greatest impact on performance is sleep. His hope is that students will take away tips for enhanced quality and quantity of sleep. It is the most important aspect of our lives and is overlooked in the lives of our children today.
From 5:00-6:00 we will be offering a family dinner in the cafeteria followed by a very engaging and interesting presentation beginning at 6 pm about the importance of sleep for our families! Please join us!

This Friday, October 3rd, is our annual Go Home Early drill. New York State requires all school districts to hold an annual “Go Home Early” drill to ensure that students and staff know what to do in case an emergency requires school grounds to be cleared at a time other than our regular dismissal time. Both school buildings will dismiss 15 minutes earlier than their regular dismissal on Friday. Those who pick their children up from school will follow the same procedure, just 15 minutes earlier than normal.

This is a reminder that all Cassadaga Valley School District students will be dismissed 15 minutes early today Friday, October 3rd for our annual Emergency Go Home Early Drill. Students that ride the bus can expect to arrive home approximately 10-15 minutes earlier than usual. Any athletes that are at MHS will exit the building temporarily and will be able to return for practice or games.

Parent/Guardians - On Monday, October 6th, 2025, the start time of Homeroom and 1st period class at Cassadaga Valley Middle-High School will be 7:45am. This is an adjustment of three minutes within our regular bell schedule and will be our start time for the remainder of the 2025-2026 school year. This change is being made to end a COVID-era practice of a staggered start time for students at the Middle-High School. Below is the revised bell schedule which reflects this time adjustment. Please contact the MHS office if you have any questions.

In Home Economics 7 students are putting their measurement and microwave skills to the test—by making chocolate chip cookies in a mug! This quick, single-serving treat is the perfect after-school snack, and a fun way to practice fractions and conversions

☀️Some of Mrs. Peterson’s Pre-K class at SES is enjoying their new classroom rug, generously donated by The Teacher’s Desk of Buffalo. Her class was the lucky winner of a drawing through The Teacher’s Corner, a resource for our staff made possible by the support of the PTO, Mrs. Richir, and a schoolwide donation from The Teacher’s Desk.

Seniors in Mrs. Richir’s Economics classes recently explored how basic needs and wants impact their everyday lives — and how unlimited wants meet limited resources. To bring this important concept to life, students created original artwork paired with a creative backstory.

Their characters were inspired by people they know, TV icons, imaginary friends, or even their best buddies. Each student then presented their project to the class, explaining the economic needs and wants of their chosen character.

The results? A fun, creative, and eye-opening way to understand the foundations of economics! Students walked away with a fresh perspective on how these concepts play out in real life.

As we continue to work with our sourdough, last week we made personal pizzas and sourdough discard chocolate chip cookies. This week we will give our starter time to grow while we learn about knife safety and practice cutting techniques.

🍪A sweet surprise rolled into our bus garage this morning!🍪 One of our community members stopped by with a delicious treat to thank our incredible drivers — calling them the most courteous on the road and always willing to let traffic through when it's safe to do so.

The high school science club recently had its first meeting of the year. The topic was “the Science of Health and Wellness.” After learning several tips such as getting proper sleep, avoiding cell phone use in bed, yoga, grounding, exercising and trying to eat healthier, the students were treated to yogurt parfaits with fresh fruit and chia seeds.
