called the ‘creative sector’ now makes up approximately one third of the
national economy” (Freedman, 2010). The
creative sector includes painting, computer game design, design, sculpture,
comics, cartooning, advertising, television, filmmaking, architecture, toy
design, fashion, and landscape design.
These are the jobs that art educators are preparing their students for
and Cassadaga continues to offer classes that gear their students
towards the jobs that are taking over the economy. The risk-taking involved in making authentic
and real art creates leadership qualities as well as courage. These characteristics are what employers are
searching for in this economy and in the “creative sector” and other fields,
because they are “out of the box” thinkers.
