On October 21, 2021, the M/HS had a sweet treat! The “Maple Experience” made a stop here today. There were four presenters at four stations, each displaying the varying aspects of maple syrup production. The inside of the trailer had a simulator running to illustrate a vacuum pump to bring the sap to the "Sugar Shack.” It also had an evaporator with examples of syrup grades. Did you know there are 307 varieties of maple syrup? Students learned how trees are tapped today and had a science lesson on density.
The event was funded by the New York State Maple Syrup Association. We were honored that the President of the Association, Doug Thompson, was here with his wife as two of the presenters. The organizer of this sweet event was Ed Newcombe. For more information about NYS Maple Syrup, visit their website at nysmaple.com.
