Important Message to Parents
Just prior to 5:00 PM last evening (Monday, February 24) there was a motor vehicle accident on Route 60 that resulted in a fatality. The child that passed away in this accident is a first grade student at Sinclairville Elementary School.
While we are not at liberty to release the name of this child at this time, it is important to understand that our Crisis Intervention Team has met to prepare to support our students and staff when they arrive to school this morning, and counselors will be available throughout the next few days.
Our thoughts and prayers are certainly with the family and all those impacted by this tragedy at this difficult time.
The Cassadaga Valley Central School Board of Education and administration would like to thank those members of our school community who have recently reached out to share concerns over our athletic programming. It is, and always will be, our intention to provide the children of our district with great opportunities in the classroom as well as through a wide variety of extra curricular activities. Shared athletic programming is just one way we can do that.
The Board of Education is a representative body elected to support and maintain the types of programs that parents and community members want for our kids. As part of our ongoing effort to represent your interests, we have created a survey designed to gather your input about athletic programming. Since we, as a Board, have not determined the degree to which we should share specific sports teams for this spring season, or for the next school year, we would love to hear from you before we meet to discuss our options in our next regularly schedule Board of Education meeting, to be held at 7:30 PM on February 10, 2020.
The New York State Public High School Athletic Association, and more specifically in our case, Section VI, requires that the Board of Education of each school hoping to participate in a shared or merged athletic program approve an official shared athletic agreement outlining the terms of that merger along with the signatures of both the athletic director and the superintendent of schools. We want to be clear that the Cassadaga Valley Central School District Board of Education has not approved, nor has the athletic director or superintendent signed merged athletic agreements for any of our baseball or basketball teams for this year or next year. It is also important to note that while it is currently our intention to share football at the varsity level - as we have been doing for several years - we have not approved or submitted shared athletic agreements to section VI for any of our football teams for the fall of 2020.
Before we have the opportunity to discuss these and other shared sports for the spring and fall of 2020, we hope you will take a few moments to read the document below for more information, then complete the survey, in order to provide us with information we can use to guide our decision making around this important issue.
Our hope is to not only hear from our community, but to act accordingly and do what is in the best interest of the children who live in our school district.
